Covenant University recently hosted a transformative Town and Gown seminar focused on the pivotal role of soft skills in achieving career success. The event, organized by the Department of Economics and Development Studies, featured Miss Amaze Obaseki, a Strategy Consultant at Ernst and Young and distinguished alumna of Covenant University, as the Guest Speaker.

Miss Obaseki, who graduated with a first-class degree in Economics, delivered an enlightening presentation titled ‘Soft Skills: The Foundation of Career Success’ at the Centre for Entrepreneurial Development Studies (CEDS) Multipurpose Hall. She emphasized that soft skills are indispensable 'people skills' crucial for professional advancement, citing insights from the World Economic Forum's Future of Jobs Report predicting their increasing relevance by 2025.

Highlighting effective communication as paramount among these skills, Obaseki stressed the importance of clear idea conveyance, active listening, body language proficiency, and empathy for understanding diverse perspectives. The seminar included an interactive case study where students applied these skills to real-life scenarios, fostering practical learning. Obaseki encouraged students to continually develop these skills through reading, engaging with diverse individuals, and pursuing online courses.
