DELSU Hosts 113th Inaugural Lecture

Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, recently held its 113th Inaugural Lecture, featuring Professor Kennedy Ejiwoke Umunadi, a Professor of Technical Education.

The lecture, titled "The Great Disconnect Between Technical Education Graduates and The Labour Market: Challenges and Pathways", highlighted the existing gap between technical education graduates and the job market.

Professor Umunadi identified several barriers contributing to this disconnect, including inadequate competencies, poor electricity supply, negative perceptions, insufficient funding, and a shortage of qualified educators. To address these challenges, he proposed solutions such as curriculum reforms, improved facilities and equipment, stronger institutional-industry linkages, better electricity supply, rebranding technical education, and adopting the German dual education system.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba, commended Professor Umunadi for his scholarly depth and excellence in delivering the lecture. The event was attended by dignitaries, including the Vice Chancellor of University of Africa, Toru-Orua, and former Vice Chancellor of DELSU, Emeritus Professor Eric Arubayi.

The lecture served as a platform for intellectual discourse and exchange, shedding light on the importance of technical education and its relevance to the labor market.
