Edo Public School Principals Accused of Hindering Rep Scholarship Scheme
According to the scholarship committee, several school principals cited a lack of directive from their supervising ministry as the reason for their non-compliance.
The committee appointed by the Dakeri Anamero Foundation to facilitate the enrollment of 10,000 indigent students in Edo State has raised concerns about certain public school principals allegedly obstructing the scholarship process. The Foundation, sponsored by Sunday Anamero, the House of Representatives member representing Etsako Federal Constituency, encountered challenges as some principals reportedly refused to sign their sections of the enrollment form, hindering the Foundation's ability to credit the schools' accounts.
According to the scholarship committee, several school principals cited a lack of directive from their supervising ministry as the reason for their non-compliance. Members of the committee, comprising civil society groups, market women, NGOs, and others, disclosed these findings during a report presentation on the enrollment process in Benin City, the capital of Edo State.

Emmanuel Iyase, the committee's Chairman, responded to the concerns, stating, "We are going to take your message to Anamero himself. The Anamero Foundation is known for these philanthropic gestures." He assured that efforts would be made to address the issue with the appropriate authorities.
However, when approached for comment, the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Joan Oviawe, dismissed the allegations, emphasizing that reading politics into the matter is incorrect. She clarified that, as per civil service rules, government workers require a directive from within to engage with third parties and urged adherence to established procedures.
