A fraudulent individual posing as a medical doctor has been apprehended in Lagos for treating patients and conducting surgeries using a forged certificate allegedly from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU).

A fraudulent medical practitioner has been apprehended by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command in the Ikorodu area of the state. The fake doctor, identified as Tayo Shakirudeeen, was found to be practicing with a forged certificate purportedly from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State.

According to reports by TVC posted on Tuesday, the police discovered approximately 200 patient cards in possession of Shakirudeeen, who hails from Abeokuta, Ogun State. Shockingly, he confessed to treating various ailments such as malaria, typhoid, infections, and even performing surgeries on children suffering from appendix issues.

Shakirudeeen admitted to working as a Nursing Assistant at The Jones Hospital, Ojokoro, along Ikorodu Road, where he claimed to have learned surgical procedures. Despite lacking authentic medical qualifications, he boldly performed surgeries, including appendectomies, using rudimentary techniques and tools.

The fake doctor confessed to charging exorbitant fees for his services, stating that he operated a hospital named Skyline Medical Centre in Ikorodu. He admitted to performing surgeries for three years without any formal medical training, with his actions only coming to light when a patient he had treated returned with the police to apprehend him.

Shakirudeeen's fraudulent activities have raised serious concerns about public safety and the prevalence of fake medical practitioners in Nigeria.
