The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, has urged Muslim faithful to respect time and shun bad attitudes.
Abdul Rahman, also, enjoined the Muslims to use the period of Ramadan fasting to move closer to the Almighty Allah, stressing the need for the University Muslim community to be steadfast and serious in whatever activities they embark upon.
The vice-chancellor stated so, recently, at the Annual Ramadan lecture organised by the FULafia Muslim Ummah.
The event was held at the Mallam Adamu Adamu twin lecture hall in the Permanent Site Campus of the University.
The theme of the lecture was: “Imperative of Muslim Unity and Global Peace: Lessons from Ramadhan."
Prof. Abdul Rahman, who was the chairman of the occasion, while commending the ummah for organising the lecture, told them to eschew unwholesome practices and lukewarm attitude that may affect their performances at work.
He advised them to value time, adding: “When you prescribe a specific time for an event, make everything necessary to start the event at that time, do not let people you invited come to wait for you before you start. Let us value time to correct some lapses.”
Delivering his lecture titled: "Imperative of Muslim Unity and Global Peace: Lessons from Ramadhan," the guest lecturer, Barr. Abdul'azeez Abdulsalam, dwelt on the importance of unity among Muslims, irrespective of individual or group differences.
Barr. Abdulsalam, who declared that the topic was targeted at solving a problem that has "become a phenomenon among the Muslims today," said that "there is no better time for such topic to be discussed other than at a time like this (during the month of Ramadhan) when we are all witnessing, participating and attesting to the practicability of unity among the Muslim Ummah."
He posited that unity was one of the most neglected injunctions of Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala on the believers, saying: "Allah (SWT) stated in several instances in the Qur’an how the religion of Islam encourages peaceful co-existence among all and sundry regardless of whether they are Muslims or not."
Earlier, in his welcome address, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Idris O.O. Amali, lauded the vice-chancellor for his interest in and encouragement of the Ramadan lecture in the University.
He also commended the executives and entire members of the Muslim community for making this year’s programme a success.
During the event, which featured recitation from the Qur’an, goodwill messages and fervent prayers for peace and unity in Nigeria were also offered by some dignitaries.
