FUNAAB Academic Staff Trained on Digital Assessment Ahead of First Semester Exams

As the First Semester Examinations approach, the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has stepped up efforts to strengthen digital assessment processes through a focused capacity-building workshop for academic staff.

Held on December 2, 2025, at the Laboratory 2 of the ICT Building, the training was organized by the Directorate of Academic Information Systems (DACIS) to enhance lecturers’ competence in authoring and managing computer-based examinations.

Prof. Olusegun Folorunso, Director of DACIS, highlighted the critical role of assessments in the academic process, particularly following teaching. With FUNAAB’s growing student population and the shift toward technology-driven assessments, he noted that efficient question-authoring tools are now essential.

A key feature of the workshop was the introduction of QPACKS, a digital tool for preparing objective questions for the University’s e-Exam platform. Prof. Folorunso stressed the importance of familiarizing lecturers with such tools to ensure proper formatting and system compatibility.

Participants, nominated from various departments, were trained to serve as resource representatives, cascading knowledge to colleagues due to the impracticality of gathering all staff simultaneously.

  • Improving teaching and assessment efficiency
  • Enhancing digital learning content
  • Integrating with Learning Management Systems (LMS)
  • Supporting continuous assessment and timely feedback
  • Facilitating collaboration among lecturers
  • Ensuring easy updating and long-term content management

Prof. Folorunso underscored that QPACKS reduces errors, saves preparation time, and enhances question quality, while the Authoring Manager system improves course material development, content quality, and student engagement.

The interactive session concluded with a commitment from DACIS to continue exploring innovative solutions to further enhance teaching, learning, and assessment at FUNAAB, ensuring the University remains at the forefront of digital academic excellence.
