Godfrey Okoye University (GOUNI) has once again made a strong impression on the global academic scene as Mr. Christopher Chidiebere Uwakwe, Director of Entrepreneurship and Coordinator of the Student Training for Entrepreneurial Promotion Sustainability (STEP S), represented both Nigeria and the University at the DAAD Global Symposium held in Cape Town, South Africa, from October 13 to 17, 2025.

The symposium, themed “Global Responsibility, Local Impact: Higher Education Partnerships for the SDGs,” brought together higher education leaders, researchers, and development partners from around the world to explore how universities can contribute to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Mr. Uwakwe served as Chair of the Working Group on “Innovation and Employment: Shaping the Future Together,” alongside Prof. Elspeth Webster from the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership. The session focused on the role of higher education in fostering innovation, job creation, and sustainable local development through meaningful collaborations with government, industry, and civil society.

He also participated in several high-level discussions on local impact, equitable partnerships, and scaling sustainable change, where he presented Godfrey Okoye University’s unique entrepreneurship and sustainability education model as a case study of how universities can transform ideas into real social impact.
Speaking on his experience, Mr. Uwakwe said, “It was an honour to share Godfrey Okoye University’s story on a global stage and to demonstrate how higher education can drive real change when innovation meets purpose.”

Through his participation, Godfrey Okoye University has further reaffirmed its leadership in sustainable education, entrepreneurship development, and impactful community engagement across Africa and beyond.
