The 13th Pro-Chancellor and Governing Council Chairman of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), Chief Chinyere E. Igwe, convened a joint meeting of the Governing Council and Senate on Monday, 16 February 2026, at the Postgraduate Hall.
Chief Igwe acknowledged the university’s progress in research capacity but urged staff to strengthen research clusters, mentorship programmes, and grant-winning capabilities to achieve world-class impact and improve global rankings. He emphasized the importance of academic excellence, quality assurance, staff development, and promotion as means to retain and attract top faculty. He further called for continuous review of programmes to align with labour market needs and professional standards.
Dr. Igwe stressed that external academic facilitators should engage IAUE as a research institution in all publications involving students during their residency. He also highlighted the need for inclusive student experiences, equitable access, gender inclusiveness, and support for disadvantaged students. Institutional governance, timely audits, and adherence to best practices in risk management and compliance were similarly underscored.
The Pro-Chancellor reiterated that the university’s success depends on effective collaboration between the Governing Council, which provides policy and strategic oversight; the Senate, which upholds academic standards; and the Vice-Chancellor and Management, who execute policies and manage day-to-day operations.
He reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to supporting the Vice-Chancellor and Senate in translating strategies into measurable outcomes, removing bottlenecks, mobilizing resources, and safeguarding institutional autonomy and standards. Chief Igwe expressed confidence that with steady leadership, prudent management, academic rigor, and collective dedication, IAUE will become renowned for quality teaching, impactful research, social responsibility, and good governance.
