IBBUL VC Advised Students to Avail Themselves Of Opportunities

Students from the of Departments of  Agriculture, Mass Communication, Biology, Physics and Mathematics science involved in Students Industrial Work Scheme Experience Scheme (SIWES) have advised to utilize the opportunity available at the places of their  attachment to learn the requisite practical knowledge of the theoretical aspect of their field of studies. 

The Vice Chancellor, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, Professor Abu Kasim Adamu, represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration, Professor Hassan Ibrahim gave the advice while declaring open a one day orientation programme organized by the Directorate of Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme(SIWES), at the  University auditorium.

The Vice Chancellor advised the students of the five department who will be going for six and three months attachment to make judicious use of the program to familiarized themselves with the practical aspects of the theoretical part of what they were thought in the school.

He urged them to be good ambassadors of the University and also be

committed and dedicated as the skills acquired will prepare them for the future after their graduation.

While presenting his speech The Area Manager of Industrial Trust Fund, Alhaji Aliyu Ibn Zakari said, the scheme is a laudable program that has contributed meaningfully to technological and economic  development of the country and as part of its manpower development programme. 

The Area Manager said part of the objectives of the Industrial Training Fund include, exposing students to actual work situation, to make institutions more responsive to the needs of employers, exposing students to work methods and techniques in handling equipment and machinery that may not be available in educational institutions.

He also urged them to always be punctual, loyal, dress decent and cooperate with their employers and industry based supervisors.

In their separate presentations, the Head of Training, Mr. Gideon Godwin Dada, Head of Finance, ITF Minna Area Office, Malam Usman Bello Danwanzam and the  SIWES Schedule Officer 1, Engineer Yahya D Muhammad advised prospective SIWES students to always attach themselves with organizations that are relevant to their field of studies.

They also emphasize the need for students to always be punctual, to avoid absenting from duty all the time and to respect the dignity of human beings around them.

They also cautioned the students to always dress properly in their place of attachment, and be ready to learn, as SIWES is an avenue for them to learn.

The ITF Officers highlighted the importance of filling the ITF SIWES forms of form 8 and SCAF form, plus the University log book for them to get paid after their program and also get the minimum required marks.

In their separate vote of thanks, the University's Registrar, Alhaji Idris Sale Kusherki and SIWES Director, Dr. Abubakar Abdulkadir stressed that  SIWES was a training, designed to prepare and expose students on the work situation they may likely meet after graduation. 

The scheme is aimed at bridging the gap between theory and practice of Science, Agriculture, Medical Science, Engineering Technology, Management, Information and Communication and other professional educational programs in the Nigerian tertiary institutions. 

The scheme also exposes students to machines and equipment professionals work methods and ways of safeguarding the work areas and workers in industries, offices laboratories hospitals and media organizations and other organizations. 

They, however appreciated the Vice Chancellor, ITF and the staff of SIWES Office for their relentless support and sacrifices.
