Kwara State University, Law Professor advocates for AI aided learning

A Profesor of Law at the Kwara State University, Malete, has reiterated the importance of modernising Nigeria's education system through the use of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning systems.

Professor Abiodun Amuda-Kannike, a Senior Advicate of Nigeria SAN, and Dean of the Faculty of Law made this known while delivering the convocation lecture of I-FATOSS University, in Benin Republic. 

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria emphasised the usefulness of Artificial Intelligence in modern education practice, noting that the reenginering of Nigeria’s education system will create a better environment for modern teaching and learning.

“For example, to teach law students contract law and other law subjects, it is important to teach them through AI and introduce them to artificial intelligence otherwise, law will outpace law students”, he said.

Professor Kannike who is also a member of the Society for Artificial Intelligence, stated that facts have shown that AI-enabled solutions and tools in the education sector provide teachers and students with a wide area of learning and teaching opportunities in various formats.

“Technology is considered to help institutions make serious changes in their processes and design a knowledge-based curriculum”, he said.

“AI, in all its forms, is a particular area of interest for educators who want to teach and help students learn through personalised study materials in a user-friendly environment”.

Professor Kannike explained that the growing acceptance of Distance Learning University System in Nigeria where indicates that the changing dynamics of education system.

The Faculty of Law Dean, however, charged the government to create an environment conducive to the success of the digital transformation just as he cautioned against the challenge of looming unemployment from machines taking over human tasks.

“Most staffing may not be needed in schools or offices as robots can successfully handle such jobs. There will be less reliance on human teaching as robots can also teach successfully just like a human”, he said.
