LASU, UN Women Commemorate 2025 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence
The Centre for Response and Prevention of Sexual & Gender-Based Violence (CRPSGBV), Lagos State University (LASU), in collaboration with UN Women, marked the 2025 edition of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence on Monday, 8th December 2025.

The event, themed “Unite! To End Digital Violence Against Women and Girls,” took place at the Buba Marwa Auditorium, LASU Main Campus, Ojo.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, represented by the Acting Director of CRPSGBV, Prof. Igot Ofem, delivered the welcome address, commending participants for their turnout and reaffirming LASU’s commitment to justice, safety, and dignity for all members of the University community. Prof. Ofem emphasized the importance of sustained activism to foster a safe and inclusive academic environment.
The programme featured insightful presentations addressing digital safety, gender equality, and online responsibility. Mrs. Omolara Akinyemi spoke on “Protecting Girls in Digital Spaces,” highlighting the risks of cyberbullying, harassment, and non-consensual image sharing, and urged students to uphold respect and digital etiquette.
Mr. Bolaji Ojediran addressed “Boys as Allies: How Young Boys Can Lead the Fight Against Online Violence,” introducing the “3S Rule” — Stop the spread, Support the target, and Speak up to the source — to guide young people in preventing online abuse.

Representatives of First Bank of Nigeria, including Mrs. Bukola Ajayi, Prince Oriuwa, Philip Omolaoye, and Rita Ifeanyi-Chukwu, conducted a session titled “Smart Money Moves: Spotting Online Scams,” offering practical guidance on financial safety and protecting digital identities.
Creative performances enhanced the programme’s impact. Students from Zeka Private School delivered a spoken-word piece on digital violence, while “The Gifted Arts” staged a drama titled “The Apple” to demonstrate the consequences of online misconduct and the importance of reporting incidents.
A highlight of the event was the Badging of the Orange Ambassadors, recognising individuals committed to promoting gender equality and advocating against all forms of violence.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Deputy Registrar/Administrative Secretary, Mrs. Akinyemi Olasunbo, who expressed gratitude to all speakers, partners, and participants for their contributions.
