The Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, has advised newly admitted part-time students to prioritize self-discipline and take advantage of the opportunities provided by the university to excel in their academic pursuits. The advice was imparted during an orientation program organized by the Directorate of Part-Time Studies for the 2023/2024 academic session's newly admitted students. The event, held on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at the Aderemi Makanjuola Lecture Theatre, Main Campus, Ojo, Lagos, aimed to acquaint the students with the university's resources and expectations.

Represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Professor Olufunsho Omibitan, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello congratulated the students on gaining admission to the esteemed institution and assured them of LASU's commitment to their welfare and academic success. She emphasized the university's dedication to providing a conducive learning environment equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including lecture theatres, laboratories, sports and recreational centers, and audio-visual teaching aids, to support their academic journey effectively.

Furthermore, Professor Danoye Oguntola-Laguda, Director of the Directorate of Part-time Studies, urged the newly admitted students to remain focused and dedicated while assuring them of the directorate's support in ensuring their success. He stressed the importance of making positive contributions that would reflect well on the university, the state, and the nation.

Various resource persons addressed the students on diverse topics during the orientation program. These included Mr. Emmanuel A. FANU, Registrar (represented by Mr. Kabiru Okugbesan), discussing "The System of Administrative Records in the University"; Mr. Said Babatunde Olayinka, University Bursar (represented by Mr. David Ogunde), enlightening students on "Your Financial Details in the University"; Dr. Omawunmi Orighomisan Makinde, University Librarian (represented by Barrister (Mrs) Harriet Dapo-Asaju), highlighting "The University Library as the Nerve Centre of Academic Activities"; and Dr. Fatai-Abatan Abiodun, Acting Dean, Students' Affairs Division, elucidating on "Students Code of Conduct, Rules, and Regulations."

Additionally, Professor Toyin Enikuomehin, Director of the Directorate of Information and Communication Technology, enlightened students on "Rules Guiding Registration, Examination, and the Role of Information Technology in Achieving High Academic Standards," while Dr. Joseph Ayeni, Head of the Careers and Counseling Unit, spoke on "Managing Your Career in the University."

The orientation program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Seun Babalola, Deputy Director of the Directorate of Part-Time Studies.

Meanwhile, the matriculation ceremony for the newly admitted part-time degree students is scheduled for Friday, April 5, 2024, at the Buba Marwa Auditorium, Main Campus, Ojo, Lagos, commencing at 10:00 a.m. prompt.
