Hon. Nkemkanma Kama, the lawmaker representing Onicha, Ohaozara, and Ivo Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, has awarded scholarships to three pupils from his constituency to study up to the university level. The announcement was made during a ceremony at his country home in Ishiagu, Ivo LGA, Ebonyi State, marking the conclusion of a one-month holiday lesson program he sponsored for primary and secondary school children across his constituency.
The holiday lesson program, named “Kama Holiday Lesson,” was conducted in 12 centers across the constituency and saw the participation of 2,500 pupils and 250 teachers. Impressed by the presentations of three pupils, Hon. Kama immediately offered them scholarships, committing to support their education until they graduate from university.
The event attracted hundreds of beneficiaries of the holiday lesson program, as well as the teachers who were engaged by the lawmaker to teach the students. In his remarks, Hon. Kama emphasized that the holiday lessons would help increase literacy levels in the constituency and prepare the children for a better future. He commended the students and teachers for their dedication and sacrifices during the holiday period.
Hon. Kama promised to continue sponsoring the lessons to keep students engaged and away from idleness and anti-social behaviors. He urged the students to value their education, describing it as the foundation of every success in life.
During the event, Hon. Kama also donated bags of fertilizers to the teachers to support food sufficiency in the area and gave cash rewards to the best students and teachers. Reverend Wealth Dorcas, the Chief of Lecture for the holiday lessons, expressed joy at the positive impact of the lessons on the children and called on the lawmaker to sustain the program in future vacations.
Dr. Napoleon Elem, the Coordinator of the holiday lessons, noted that the program had addressed the teacher deficit prevalent in most schools in the constituency.
