McPherson University Unveils ₦1.2 Billion Law College Complex And Engineering Expansion Plans
The Vice-Chancellor of McPherson University, Prof. Francis Igbasan, has unveiled a number of ambitious infrastructure and academic development initiatives aimed at strengthening the University’s position as a leading institution of higher learning in Nigeria. Among the projects is the approval of ₦1.2 billion for the construction of a new College of Law building, a development expected to enhance the teaching and learning environment for law students.
Prof. Igbasan disclosed this during an interview conducted by 100-level students of the Department of Mass Communication, Miss Okunaenyife Marycynthia and Miss Chibuoke Blessing, as part of their practical training. During the session, the Vice-Chancellor shared insights into the University’s ongoing projects, future aspirations, and strategies for sustaining growth and excellence.
Speaking on infrastructural development, he explained that the University is currently pursuing three major projects through various funding mechanisms, including the Build-Operate-and-Transfer (BOT) model and internally generated revenue. He noted that the approved College of Law project reflects the institution’s commitment to providing world-class facilities that support academic excellence and professional training.
The Vice-Chancellor also revealed plans to establish a College of Engineering before the end of his tenure, describing it as a critical step towards broadening the University’s academic programmes and responding to the growing demand for engineering education. In addition, he disclosed that plans are underway for the construction of a modern, state-of-the-art library that will further enhance teaching, learning, and research activities across the institution.

According to Prof. Igbasan, these projects are being carefully pursued within the limits of available resources while ensuring that the University maintains its high standards. He emphasized that the administration remains focused on creating an environment that promotes innovation, academic excellence, and holistic student development.
On student welfare and security, the Vice-Chancellor highlighted the University’s Work-Study Programme, which enables qualified students with strong academic performance and good character to earn financial support while pursuing their studies. He further reassured parents and stakeholders of the institution’s commitment to safety, noting that the University works closely with the Nigeria Police Force, So-Safe Corps, military personnel, local hunters, vigilante groups, and its internal security team to maintain a secure and conducive learning environment.
