MOAU Empowers Staff with Comprehensive Pre-Retirement Training

Management of Reverend Father Moses Orshio Adasu University has organized a one-day pre-retirement training programme for teaching and non-teaching staff who are approaching retirement from the University.

The event took place today Wednesday, 25th February, 2026 at the Zarephath Centre, Makurdi and designed to equip participants with practical knowledge and guidance for a fulfilling life after active service in the University.

 

In his welcome address, the Registrar, Mr. Barnabas Terfa Hemba, expressed appreciation to the university management for prioritizing the welfare of staff even as they prepare to exit the service. He noted that retirement is a significant phase of life that requires thoughtful planning and informed decision-making. He encouraged participants to take full advantage of the training sessions.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Timothy Terseer Alabar represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Emmanuel Eriba Otor, in an opening remark reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to the well-being of its staff. According to him, retirement should not be viewed as the end of productivity, but rather as the beginning of another meaningful chapter of life.

 

The immediate past Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Emmanuel Ayangarumun Kenen in a goodwill message commended the initiative, describing it as timely and thoughtful. He urged the prospective retirees to embrace the transition with optimism and to make deliberate plans that would enable them to remain healthy, active and socially relevant in society.

As part of the programme, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Priscilla Mwuese Utoo presented a paper titled “Health Promotion for Senior Citizens,” where she emphasized the importance of maintaining physical, mental and emotional well-being in retirement. She highlighted healthy lifestyle choices, regular medical check-ups and positive social interactions as key components of graceful ageing.

In another presentation, Mrs. Christy Eriba delivered a paper on “Effective Management and Thriving of Personnel During the Retirement Period.” She provided insights on financial planning, time management, personal development and strategies for staying relevant and fulfilled after leaving active service.

Participants expressed satisfaction with the training, describing it as enlightening and impactful. Many called for the programme to be sustained and institutionalized to benefit more staff members in the future.

 

The one-day training reflects the university’s on-going efforts to support its workforce, not only during their years of service but also as they transition into retirement.
