The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, has successfully addressed the persistent water shortage on the Yelwa Campus, providing much-needed relief to students ahead of the holy month of Ramadan.
In a bulletin released to the student body, the SUG, led by Comrade Shariff Abdulmalik Toro, confirmed that an emergency meeting with University Management yielded decisive interventions. The SUG President and Welfare Director met with the Registrar, representing the Vice-Chancellor, to investigate the causes of the water disruption and propose solutions.

The following measures were implemented:
- Increased Diesel Supply: The daily diesel allocation for the generator powering the campus water system was raised from 100 litres to 210 litres, extending pumping operations from 40 minutes to roughly 2 hours daily.
- Boost at Lushi Facility: Diesel supply at the Lushi pumping station increased from 200 litres to 300 litres, enabling up to 4 hours of daily water pumping.
- New Booster Pump Approved: Management has approved the immediate procurement of a new booster pressure pump to replace the faulty unit, addressing a key cause of the supply failure.
The SUG assured students that their welfare remains a top priority and encouraged them to “keep trusting the process, because the process is working.”
This intervention underscores the SUG’s proactive engagement and collaborative approach with University Management to ensure campus amenities function effectively.
