On Wednesday, the Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technology (NISLT) officially inducted 141 graduates from the University of Benin into the profession. This event, held at the university campus, marked the 11th induction ceremony for the institution.

During the ceremony, Yemi Gbadegesin, the Registrar of NISLT, praised the graduates for their enthusiasm and dedication to the field of Science Laboratory Technology (SLT). He noted that the discipline is designed to cultivate highly skilled and professionally adept laboratory scientists through both practical and theoretical knowledge, critical thinking, and logical reasoning.

Gbadegesin emphasized that the course aims to equip laboratory scientists with the skills necessary to design, develop, test, produce, and maintain devices, systems, and products that benefit humanity. In his address, he urged the new inductees to uphold the profession’s ethics, including honesty, integrity, transparency, accountability, and respect for human dignity.

“The induction of these 141 students aligns with the Institute’s mandate and fulfills the curriculum requirements for the SLT University program. Graduates are inducted into NISLT upon passing mandatory professional examinations and receiving their licenses,” Gbadegesin explained.

Prof. Lilian Salami, Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, acknowledged the growth and development of the SLT program in recent years. Represented by Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Catherine Ukponmwan, Salami highlighted the university’s commitment to enhancing its collaboration with NISLT to achieve the program’s objectives.

“In recent years, the Science Laboratory Technology program at the University of Benin has made significant progress. We are proud of the positive impact on many lives, especially those being inducted today,” said Prof. Ukponmwan.

“Today marks a significant milestone in your lives. Your successful completion of the program demonstrates your commitment and resilience through the rigorous academic challenges. You are now recognized as experts with exceptional skills in handling scientific instruments, data analysis, and conducting experiments,” Prof. Ukponmwan added.

She concluded by encouraging the new professionals to adhere to ethical and professional standards in their work and to remain meticulous in their duties.
