NSASA–UDUS Hosts Orientation and Rewards Ceremony for Newly Admitted and Returning Students

On the 11th of April, 2025, the Nigerian Sociological and Anthropological Association (NSASA), Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto (UDUS) chapter, organized an orientation and rewards ceremony for the students of Sociology and Criminology at the FSS Auditorium, Faculty of Social Sciences, UDUS.
The program was well organized with the presence of noble lecturers in the Department of Sociology. Notable among them were Professor Jimoh Amzat, the Head of Department (HOD), Dr. A.B. Bada, the examination officer of the department, Dr. Abdul-Azeez Yusuf, Dr. M.A. Gado, among others.
The event aimed at educating the students, especially the newly admitted ones, on the norms and values governing the prestigious institution. Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto. It also sought to guide the students in understanding the binding rules and regulations, emphasizing the need not to overstep the boundaries set by the institution's constitution. Furthermore, students were enlightened on career opportunities in the fields of Sociology, Criminology, and Security Studies.
According to a statement released by the HOD, Professor Jimoh Amzat, “Ladies and gentlemen, I welcome you all to the most greatest and most peaceful university in Nigeria. Usmanu Danfodiyo University is among second-generation universities established in the year 1975, and not only that, the school has produced so many scholars both national and international.
This school is well known in the whole of the nation as one of the best universities, so you're all welcome. I will also like to extend my heartfelt gratitude for seeing you in the Department of Sociology. Sociology goes beyond people's perspectives, and looking at the word ‘sociology’ means a lot of things in our society. For someone to excel in life is not about the course of study but how brilliant you are in any course. This is where our people are getting it wrong. Success only stands with those that sacrifice their time, efforts, and hard work.”
He further added, “Today is also a day to reward those who did well and those who are still doing well, so it will enhance the academic performance of the new students on their academic journey. The rewards are not about their brilliancy alone but through hard work and dedication. So I'm urging all the entire students to please remain focused and know why you're here. What's important for us here is your A+,not your F. So work hard and be committed. At the end of the day, success is your ultimate goal.
According to an official interview released by one of the awardees, Miss Rukayat, a 400-level student of Sociology, she said, “I'm very excited for being awarded today, though I wasn't expect such a thing like this because I thought I couldn't do better when I was in 300L. So I was very surprised hearing my name. As I said early, I think the best thing someone can do to excel as a student is to have the mindset that I must succeed regardless of the context, and the most relevant thing is to have good peer groups.
These are also the people that can help you to achieve your goals. So as a new student in this school, the best thing is to try your best and leave the rest to God Almighty (Allah). Today happened to be the most happiest day of my life in this school, and I say a very big thank you to my friends, colleagues, and mentors for their precious time."
