Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), convened a high-level town hall meeting on Tuesday, 18th November 2025, at the S. B. Mohammed Auditorium, School of Postgraduate Studies.

The session aimed to review the University’s progress, address emerging challenges, and outline strategies for institutional strengthening.
The meeting drew representatives from the State Ministry of Education, university staff unions including ASUU and JAC (NASU, SSANU, NAAT), Deans and Directors of Faculties, Schools, Institutes and Centres, Heads of Departments and units, as well as members of the university management.
In his remarks, Honourable John D. W. Mamman, Commissioner for Education, expressed appreciation to the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, for his unwavering support to NSUK. He commended Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sa’adatu Hassan Liman for her effective leadership, noting that the forum aligns with the Governor’s vision of enhancing quality education, capacity development, and value addition in the state’s tertiary institutions. He emphasized that the town hall would help assess achievements and identify priority areas requiring improvement to meet global standards, while reaffirming the government’s readiness to address NSUK’s pressing needs.

Addressing participants, Professor Liman (Fellow UNESCO, ACLS, FIIFP, CBER) highlighted the University’s ongoing projects, including the 4.5-kilometre road network, solar lighting in Gudi, and borehole drilling in hostels, which have improved campus operations. She outlined key agenda items such as curriculum reform aligned with labour market demands, enhancing higher education delivery, learning digitization, staff capacity building, TVET and STEM education, scholarship programs, student and staff mobility, and internationalization of academic partnerships to boost global exposure and collaborative research.
Speaking for ASUU, Comrade Dr. Olatunji Ayanninuola acknowledged the Vice-Chancellor’s leadership and the Commissioner’s support but highlighted issues including unpaid EAA arrears, minimum-wage adjustments, pension concerns, and the need for a competitive salary structure.
Prof. Abdullahi Adamu Sulaiman, Chairman of the Committee of Deans and Academic Directors, appealed for special capital funding to complete academic facilities, reviewed tax burdens on staff, increased training opportunities, and expanded academic staffing—all requiring intervention from the State Government.

In closing, Dr. Bala I. Ahmed II, delivering the vote of thanks, appreciated the Governor and Commissioner’s responsiveness, commended the Vice-Chancellor’s commitment to excellence, and encouraged all stakeholders to maintain diligence in sustaining and elevating NSUK’s standards.
