NSUK Senate Approves New Academic Programmes and Launches Department of Public Health
The Senate of Nasarawa State University Keffi, at its 136th Regular Meeting on Thursday, 29th January 2026, has greenlit a series of new academic programmes and formally approved the establishment of a Department of Public Health, reinforcing the University’s commitment to academic innovation and professional relevance.

New Postgraduate Programmes in Islamic Studies
Within the Department of Islam and Development Studies, Faculty of Arts, the Senate approved the introduction of Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) and Professional Master’s Degrees in:
- Mosque Management
- Islam and Security Studies
- Islam and Conflict Resolution
- Imaamship
- Applied Da’awa, Islamic Communication, and Community Development
New Undergraduate Programmes in Economics
In the Department of Economics, Faculty of Social Sciences, the Senate sanctioned the creation of two undergraduate degree programmes:
- Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Islamic Economics and Finance
- Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Cooperative Economics and Management
Establishment of Department of Public Health
As part of a strategic effort to strengthen health sciences and public service training, the Senate approved the establishment of the Department of Public Health within the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences. Concurrently, the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Public Health was approved as the department’s flagship undergraduate programme.
These initiatives reflect NSUK’s proactive approach to expanding academic offerings, promoting professional training, and addressing emerging societal and healthcare needs.
