Renowned Energy Expert, Professor Abubakar Sani Sambo, Urges Federal University of Lafia to Champion Smokeless Coal Initiative
Professor Abubakar Sani Sambo, a distinguished engineer, administrator, and author, has called on the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) to lead the way in promoting the use of smokeless coal for cooking in Nasarawa State.
Sambo, who delivered the keynote address at a symposium organized by the Centre for Energy Studies, FULafia, emphasized the importance of harnessing coal as a natural and sustainable energy source.

Sambo, a two-time director-general of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) and current Vice President of the Nigerian Academy of Science (NAS), highlighted the benefits of coal, noting that it burns steadily and provides maintenance-free heat. He also acknowledged concerns about coal's environmental impact but pointed to smokeless coal alternatives like manufactured smokeless coals and natural anthracite as viable solutions.

FULafia's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, reiterated the university's commitment to research and innovation, emphasizing the symposium's theme, "Unlocking Nigeria's Energy Potential Through Policy and Innovation." The event was attended by dignitaries from the Energy Commission of Nigeria, Council of Registered Engineers of Nigeria (COREN), Nigerian Climate Change Council, and senior FULafia officials.
