UNIJOS Secures Full Accreditation Status for Over 20 Academic Programmes
With this development, approximately 93.3% of the seventy-five academic programmes offered by UNIJOS now enjoy Full Accreditation status.
The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted Full Accreditation status to twenty-six academic programmes at the University of Jos (UNIJOS). This decision follows an accreditation exercise conducted by the NUC at the university in October/November 2023.
The findings were detailed in a report sent to the Vice-Chancellor of UNIJOS, Professor Tanko Ishaya, and signed by the NUC’s Acting Director of Accreditation, Engr. Abraham Chundusu, on behalf of the Executive Secretary. According to the report, twenty-three undergraduate programmes received Full Accreditation status, while two undergraduate programmes were granted Interim Accreditation. Additionally, the sole postgraduate programme evaluated was also granted Full Accreditation status.
With this development, approximately 93.3% of the seventy-five academic programmes offered by UNIJOS now enjoy Full Accreditation status.
The NUC is responsible for accrediting academic programmes in Nigerian universities through a quality assurance mechanism to ensure these programmes meet minimum academic standards and adhere to approved government and industry guidelines. Achieving Full Accreditation status signifies that a programme has met the necessary standards and criteria set by the NUC, ensuring high-quality training for students and preparing them for successful careers. Full Accreditation status also means the programme can operate for at least five academic sessions before undergoing another evaluation to determine its continued relevance.
