Vanderbelt Medical Centre to Support BUK with Research Grant

The Vanderbelt Medical Centre in the United States of America has announced its intention to provide a research grant to Bayero University, Kano (BUK) as part of their collaboration to enhance teaching and research in the medical field.

The Director of the Centre, Professor Mukhtar Aliyu, revealed this on Monday, June 3rd, 2024, during a visit to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, in his office. "We are working on providing a research grant to the University as part of our efforts to support Bayero University in medical teaching," he said. "When approved, the grant will go a long way in assisting the university in its quest to carry out more research in the medical field, which will advance healthcare delivery to the populace."

Professor Aliyu commended the University's openness and prudence in resource management, stating that the Centre has been impressed with the commitment shown by the staff and management of BUK. He added that the Centre wishes to expand its collaboration with the University.

During the visit, Professor Aliyu also announced that a team of experts from the USA, including himself, would conduct a series of training sessions for some University staff on bio-statistics survival methods and HIV Geographic Information System.

In response, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, welcomed the collaboration, emphasizing that partnerships are essential for the growth of the university. "We are always open to partnerships and collaborations because these are the things that make an institution grow and prosper," he said. The Vice Chancellor was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic, Professor Sani Muhammad.
