These outstanding students, along with their schools, were honored at the event, which also recognized the best male and female visually impaired candidates and the top three schools with the best results in Nasarawa State. WAEC Honors Top Performers and Schools at 61st Annual Meeting

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) showcased excellence at its 61st Annual Meeting in Lafia, Nasarawa State, where it bestowed prestigious awards upon the top three candidates of the 2022 May/June West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). Chioma Obidigbo of St. Paul’s Academy, Plateau State emerged as the overall best candidate, also securing the best female category. Valour Inyang and Ayomide Olumide-Attah claimed the second and third prizes, respectively.

These outstanding students, along with their schools, were honored at the event, which also recognized the best male and female visually impaired candidates and the top three schools with the best results in Nasarawa State. Faith Academy, Masaka, clinched the WAEC Endowment Book Prize for producing the best aggregate results in Nasarawa State. Other notable recognitions included Pinn Margret Secondary Commercial School, Calabar, winning the Vetebra Merit Award as the best public school in science subjects nationwide, and Girl’s Secondary School, Ede-Oballa, Enugu State, securing the title of the overall best public school in all subjects nationwide.

The event also celebrated the best overall male and female visually impaired candidates and recognized outstanding candidates from public schools nationwide.

Government officials, including the governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, commended WAEC for its pivotal role in conducting credible examinations and contributing to education development in the country. The officials emphasized the profound impact of WAEC on students' performance assessment and education development.

Governor Abdullahi Sule urged WAEC and the Nigeria National Committee (NNC) not to relent in evolving strategies to combat examination malpractice. He pledged continued government support to create an enabling environment for students and emphasized the importance of quality education.

In his welcome address, Dr. Amos Dangut, the Head of the National Office of WAEC Nigeria, reassured the commitment to conducting credible examinations across multiple diets. He highlighted future initiatives, including the digitalization of exams for private candidates, beginning with objective questions.

The event concluded with expressions of gratitude to Nasarawa State for hosting the NNC meeting and commendations for their contributions to education development at both the state and national levels.
