93-Year-Old Teacher Honored For 68 Years of Service, Does Not Plan To Retire

A 93-year-old Everlene Davis from North Carolina has been honored for her extraordinary career as a teacher after working for 84 consecutive years. Davis said she takes immense pride in her role in shaping children into successful adults.

A 93-year-old Everlene Davis from North Carolina has been honored for her extraordinary career as a teacher after working for 68consecutive years. 

Davis started teaching in 1956 and has remained committed to education ever since. She currently seves as ateacher of  family and consumer sciences at South Columbus High School, Tabor City, United States.

In an interview with , Davis shared her professional journey, which began at Douglass High School during the era of segregation. Following the integration of schools, she moved to Tabor City High School before finally settling at South Columbus High School.

Despite the changing times and diverse student backgrounds, Davis’s teaching experience has been rooted in Tabor City. “I’m familiar most of the time with the parents, their grandparents, and sometimes the great grandparents,” she said. For Davis, teaching is not merely a job, but a passion that has spanned generations.

Davis said she takes immense pride in her role in shaping children into successful adults. “I am so happy to know that I taught something in my class, you learned something in my class, that has contributed to the success of your job. That means a lot to me. Very much so, very much so,” she expressed.

David revealed that she is rooting for every child who has ever taught. Davis added that despite her age she still controls and manage her classroom.  “If students plan to pass this course, they have to work! And I work them hard. I guess it’s a result of the way I was trained,” she stated.
