The Vice-Chancellor of Alex-Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, Professor Sunday Oge Elom has commended the creative imitation capabilities of the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Employability of the institution.

The Vice-Chancellor of Alex-Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, Professor Sunday Oge Elom has commended the creative imitation capabilities of the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Employability of the institution.

Myschoolnews reports he said this has aided in imbuing the students with the requisite functional knowledge and sellable skills to be self-reliant and employable on graduation.

 

The Vice-Chancellor gave the commendation recently when the Acting Director of the Centre, Dr. Emmanuel Nweze led a team of staff and students to present some of their products to the University Management. 

 

The products which included 20 bottles of Liquid soap, 30 bottles of bleach, 19 bottles of perfume, 50 bottles of air freshener, 15 bottles of body spray, 60tins of water disinfectant for bathing, 30tins of toilet/bathroom disinfectant, 40 bottles of hair cream, 50 bottles of anti-dandruff hair shampoo and 6 tie & dye, were produced by students as part of their course work in entrepreneurship.

 

The Vice-Chancellor who was represented by his deputy in charge of Administration, Prof. Abel Ezeoha said Management was awed by the resourcefulness of the Centre, which is demonstrated by their passion, commitment and quality of leadership, adding that the items would be used in the various offices of the University.

 

He further commended them on the quality and standard of the products, stressing that it shows that the Centre has been consistent in educating the students, not just on the academic contents of entrepreneurship but also on the strategic importance of acquiring vocational skills that could help them after graduation.

 

He also pointed out the importance of crowd-funding in raising funds for entrepreneurial activities, which according to him, helps students who are committed to the craft but do not have adequate capital to embark on large scale production after graduation, and assured of the management’s support to the Centre to deliver on their mandates.

 

Earlier, the Acting Director, Centre for Entrepreneurship and Employability, Dr. Emmanuel Nweze said, they came to donate some items produced by students in their entrepreneurial activities , adding that the Centre intends reducing the financial burden of routine purchase of office and toilet disinfectants for students’ hostels and offices from the University Management.

 

He added that the main aim of the Centre is to train students on vocational skills to enable them be employable and self-reliant after graduation, stressing that the Centre has consistently fulfilled that important mandate.

 

While sharing his experiences at the Centre, Nwaliede Ezekiel Chukwudi, a 400 level student of the Department of Accountancy, said the Center has helped him to harness some practical skills, aiding him to learn how to modify some products that are already in the market.

 

He added that with the help of the centre, some students are making and selling some products to make some extra cash to meet their daily needs.

 

Similarly, Adesanmi Bola Chinasa a 400 level student of the same department, also commended the Centre for imbuing her with life-skills, adding that she can now conveniently write a business plan and proposal.

 

She further stated that currently she bakes, possesses the ability to market her products effectively and make sales even while still in school.
