BDTH/KASU and NBSA Celebrate World Blood Donor Day

The Department of Haematology and Blood Transfusion at Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital/Kaduna State University (BDTH/KASU), in collaboration with the National Blood Service Agency (NBSA), celebrated the 2025 World Blood Donor Day with a call to action to promote regular blood donation.

The event, themed "Give Blood, Give Hope. Together We Save Lives," aimed to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation and its impact on saving lives. The Vice Chancellor of Kaduna State University, Prof. Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa, emphasized the significance of blood donation, particularly for patients in critical need, and assured the Department of the University's commitment to providing necessary support.

The Acting Zonal Director of NBSA, Dr. Peter Maiyaki, highlighted the critical shortage of blood in Kaduna State, which ranks second in maternal mortality. He commended regular donors and urged more people to become regular donors, noting that blood has a limited shelf life.

Other notable speakers at the event included Prof. Ibrahim Abdu-Aguye, Dr. Hassana Yakasai, and Imam Naseem Ahmad, who all emphasized the importance of blood donation as a noble and life-saving act. The event featured an interactive session, where participants discussed blood donation myths, facts, and procedures.

The celebration aimed to promote a culture of regular blood donation and encourage more people to participate in this life-saving act.
