"Corruption is Everywhere" , Emir of Ilorin Says Urging EFCC to Extend Anti-Corruption Campaign to Rural Schools

The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Traditional Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to extend its anti-corruption campaign to primary and secondary schools in rural areas across the country. He urged that such initiatives should extend beyond urban centers to reach communities and villages, particularly focusing on schools.

 The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Traditional Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to extend its anti-corruption campaign to primary and secondary schools in rural areas across the country.

Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari made this appeal in Ilorin, the state capital, on Thursday during a road walk organized by the EFCC and other security agencies to commemorate the Africa Union Anti-Corruption Day under the theme, “Effective Whistleblower Protection Mechanism: A Critical Tool in the Fight Against Corruption.”

The road walk, which was led by officials of the EFCC's Ilorin zonal command alongside representatives from sister agencies, traditional rulers, civil society organizations, NYSC members, and individuals, covered designated routes within the city.

Represented by Oba Oluwagbemiga Oloyede, Olusin of Isanlu Isin, the Emir emphasized the need for the EFCC to deploy officers to all 16 local government areas of Kwara State to intensify the campaign against corruption in rural communities.

During his address at the event, the traditional ruler commended the collaboration between the EFCC and stakeholders in organizing the road walk as a commendable effort in the fight against corruption. He urged that such initiatives should extend beyond urban centers to reach communities and villages, particularly focusing on schools.

“The EFCC should also set a day for the anti-corruption walk exercise in the grassroots areas of the state whereby the villagers would move around their communities and villages to preach to residents and embark on advising young ones against corrupt practices and catch them young against corruption."

 He added, “This is because corruption is everywhere in the country. An example of corruption is examination malpractice prevalent in our schools. If this form of exercise is taken to nooks and crannies of our state, corruption would be wiped away”.
