Students enrolled in the Federal University of Technology, Akure’s (FUTA) Open and Distance Learning (ODL) programme have commenced their on-campus examinations, concluding their 100-level academic session. These exams, taking place at FUTA’s campus, provide ODL students a unique blend of flexibility and campus-based experience, bridging the gap between online education and in-person learning.

Professor Sanmi Alao, Director of the ODL Centre, highlighted that FUTA’s ODL programme is tailored to break down traditional educational barriers, granting access to quality higher education regardless of location, age, or time constraints. The programme combines online lectures and assignments with monthly on-campus tutorials, ensuring students gain valuable university interactions while maintaining the flexibility of distance learning.

Following their exams, these ODL students will advance to 200-level, while new students begin their journey at the 100-level. The FUTA ODL programme, accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC), awards a full bachelor’s degree in computer science, matching the certification of on-campus degrees. Graduates are also eligible for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), provided they meet the age requirement.
