As part of the combined 34th and 35th convocation ceremonies, the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), held a vibrant product exhibition at its 2,500-seat auditorium on Monday, November 25, 2024.

Speaking at the event, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Adenike Oladiji, represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Taiwo Amos, described the exhibition as a platform for fostering collaboration between FUTA and industry partners while promoting product development. She congratulated the graduands and encouraged them to embrace entrepreneurship, urging them to leverage their skills and think beyond traditional employment opportunities.

Innovative Displays
The exhibition featured a variety of innovative products, including:

  • Ceramic arts, textile designs, paintings, and sculptures, showcasing FUTA’s creativity.
  • An Internet of Things-based Crop Monitoring System, developed by 500-level student Adeleke Toluwani, which enables farmers to monitor crops remotely and receive notifications of farm activities on mobile devices.
  • Black Soldier Fly Larva (BSFL) feed by JK Farms, offering a sustainable alternative for livestock feed with 50% protein content alongside calcium, fat, and other nutrients for chickens, fish, pigs, and rabbits.
  • Renewable energy solutions from the Centre for Renewable Energy Technology (CRET), including inverters, lithium batteries, and wind vanes capable of charging batteries using wind energy.

The exhibition underscored FUTA’s commitment to innovation, research, and practical solutions, with calls for increased collaboration and funding to further these initiatives.

The Vice Chancellor praised the institution’s ingenuity and urged the graduating class to be worthy ambassadors, applying their entrepreneurial skills to create lasting impacts in their fields.
