FG to Install Solar Power Plant at AFUED to Ensure 24/7 Electricity – VC
The Vice- Chancellor, Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED) Ondo, Ondo State, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola, has dropped a hint by the Federal Government of Nigeria, to install solar power plant in the institution.
Prof. Popoola made the disclosure on Wednesday December 10, 2025 while speaking at an orientation programme organised by the University’s Division of Student Affairs (DSA), for newly admitted students into the institution for the 2025/2026 academic session.
Speaking on the solar power plant, the University Administrator, lauded the Federal Government for the initiative, noting that when fully operational, the project would help in alleviating problem associated with epileptic power supply in the institution.
His words: “The Federal Government has identified this university, among the ones that were identified, six were chosen and AFUED is one of them. they are going to install a solar power plant in our university so that we don’t have to depend only on electricity from the national grid for our energy supply.
“That project has already started and I am sure that in your tenure as students, it is going to be completed so that we can have 24/7 power supply in the university.
“It is a Federal Government project and we are monitoring it, because we want to see that it is well delivered”, he remarked.
Prof. Popoola, congratulated the newly admitted students and advised that they make judicious use of the admission opportunity given to them by being responsible during their stay in the university.
In addition, the University Administrator, urged them to see a University beyond the horizon of a secondary school, where he said activities are regimented, by devoting more time to their studies, and obeying all rules and regulations.
He warned the new entrants against indulging in negative acts such as cultism, violence, crimes, examination malpractice as well as drug abuse, which he said could bring the name of the institution into disrepute, saying “if you are caught in any of these, you will be disciplined”.
Emphasising importance of hard work, Prof. Popoola admonished new students to pay greater attention to their academic development, and make effective use of facilities provided in the university to enhance learning.
“You must remember your priority, which is your academic work. In addition, you must make effective use of facilities such as the Library and other academic resources that are put together in the University to make sure that you have academic development and desire for growth”, he stated.
Prof. Popoola commended the Dean, Division of Student Affairs (DSA) in the University, Dr. (Mrs) Justina Ogboru and other staff in the Division as well as the institution, for organizing the orientation and advised the newly admitted students to avail themselves of opportunities available at the DSA by seeking for any assistance when needed.
Earlier in her address of welcome, the DSA, AFUED, Dr. (Mrs) Justina Ogboru, explained that the orientation programme was organised for the purpose of providing the new students with necessary information that would guide their conduct and uplift their academic progress during their sojourn in the University.
Ogboru advised the new entrants to behave responsibly by obeying rules and regulations concerning dress code, membership of student associations, as well as orderly behaviour in the institution.
The AFUED DSA, expressed appreciation to Management of the University for provision of necessary support, and gratitude to all the resource persons who presented papers during the exercise.
The five-day programme, which held at the Babatunde Ipaye lecture theatre and the sports complex in the University featured presentation of papers on various topics which include “The Youth and Social Media”, Understanding the course unit system in the university”, Student Activities, Voluntary organisations, Time Management and Counselling Services”, “Entrepreneurship and Vocational Development” as well as “Campus Culture, Ethics and Relationship with University Authority”.
Others are, “You and Ondo Community”, “Students and Financial Transactions”. “Examination Regulations, Prizes and Awards”, “Sporting Activities in Adeyemi Federal University of Education Ondo as well as students with integrity”, to mention but few.
