A viral TikTok video shared by a student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), identified as @dipsin1, has triggered widespread online debate over allegations of excessive disciplinary conduct by a lecturer.
The video, which began circulating on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, shows the visibly distressed student alleging that a faculty member confiscated his earring reportedly worth ₦500,000 and threw it away. In apparent protest, the student was seen tearing up his university identity card while announcing his decision to withdraw from the institution.

The incident has sharply divided social media users, reviving conversations around student–institution relations in Nigerian tertiary institutions. Key points of debate include the protection of students’ personal property, the limits of disciplinary authority, and the methods employed by lecturers to enforce campus regulations. Others have argued that students are obliged to comply with institutional rules and codes of conduct upon admission.
As of the time of filing this report, FUNAAB management has yet to issue an official statement addressing the incident or clarifying the university’s policy on personal accessories worn by students.
The episode underscores the growing friction between established disciplinary frameworks within public universities and the evolving expectations of students regarding personal expression and rights.
