FUTA to Host N50 Million MTech E-Studio Project for Architecture Postgraduate Training

The initiative is courtesy of the President of the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA), Architect Mobolaji Adeniyi, under the Friends of Mobolaji Adeniyi (FOMA) Legacy Project.

The landmark event, held at the T.I. Francis Auditorium, brought together distinguished architects, industry leaders, alumni, students, and friends of the university to support transformative digital infrastructure for postgraduate architectural training.
In his opening address, the Head of the Department of Architecture, Professor Adedayo Ayoola, described the E-Studio as a “symbol of creativity, collaboration, and progress,” noting that the department’s proposal for the establishment of a full-fledged School of Architecture had recently passed through the Academic Planning Committee for onward presentation to Senate. He commended alumni contributions, which have ensured 24-hour uninterrupted power supply to design studios, and urged support for the new vision.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji, FAS, represented by the Dean, School of Environmental Technology, Professor Joseph Basorun, applauded the Department of Architecture for its pursuit of excellence. She acknowledged the roles of Professor Ayoola, alumni, and partners in conceptualising a project that aligns with FUTA’s goal of global competitiveness.
“At FUTA, we are intentional about creating an enabling environment where innovation meets opportunity,” Professor Oladiji said. “Architecture is a discipline that not only demands creativity but also thrives on cutting-edge technology. The MTech E-Studio will represent a hallmark achievement, preparing our students to compete and excel globally. Today’s appeal is not just for funds; it is an invitation to be part of a lasting legacy that will inspire generations of architects.”

She reaffirmed FUTA’s commitment to supporting projects that enhance teaching, research, and professional training, noting that initiatives like the E-Studio strengthen the university’s international reputation.
Arc. Mobolaji Adeniyi, FNIA, PNIA, President of NIA and Founder of FOMA, described FUTA as a worthy choice for the Southwest leg of her nationwide legacy projects. She praised the alumni’s loyalty and emphasized that the E-Studio will nurture creativity, foster innovation, and prepare students for the demands of an evolving industry.

The official launch of the appeal fund was led by the Chief Launcher, Senator Olubunmi Adetumbi, Chairman of the South West Development Commission (SWDC), represented by Dr. Jide Martins, Federal Commissioner for Ondo State. Representatives of the graduating classes from 1994 to 2024 joined in the launch, with Senator Adetumbi pledging to ensure the project’s realization.

Awards of recognition were presented to key contributors, especially past leaders of NIA, with stakeholders renewing their commitment to the timely completion of the project.
The ₦50 million MTech E-Studio, under the FOMA Legacy Project, will feature 40 high-performance All-in-One Desktop Computers, 5G Routers, Smart TV Screens, UPS surge protectors, air conditioning systems, custom MDF workstations, and other digital tools.

Designed to enhance creativity, innovation, and hybrid learning, the project will bridge academic training with industry application, positioning FUTA as a leader in architecture education. Once completed, it is expected to become a model digital design studio in Nigeria, reinforcing FUTA’s role as a hub of innovation and professional excellence in the built environment sector.
