FUTIA Expands Permanent Campus as VC Takes Delivery of New Computing Building
The Federal University of Technology Ikot Abasi (FUTIA), Akwa Ibom State, has formally taken delivery of two completed projects: the School of Computing and Information Technology Academic Building and the Perimeter Fence with panel mesh installation around the facility. The projects were executed by Rampsky Investment Limited under the 2024 TETFund Annual Intervention.
During a brief Project Handover Ceremony held at the University’s Permanent Campus on Monday, 9 February 2026, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Leo Daniel, described the occasion as historic, noting that it marked the completion of the first academic building at the Permanent Campus, executed by an indigenous company.
The Vice Chancellor highlighted that the new facilities would enable the immediate relocation of some academic programmes from the Take-off Campus, helping to decongest existing facilities. He emphasized the University’s growing infrastructural needs, with 24 departments across six schools, and announced that arrangements had been concluded for the construction of access and internal road networks in line with the University Master Plan.
Professor Daniel commended Rampsky Investment Limited, led by Managing Director/CEO Otobong Udoma, for the quality and timely execution of the projects, as confirmed by the approval of the Practical Completion Certificate by the Consultant, Directorate of Physical Planning, and Works Department. He also appreciated the relevant University Directorates and the host communities for their cooperation throughout the project period.
On behalf of the Governing Council, Management, staff, and students, the Vice Chancellor lauded TETFund and the Federal Government for their sustained infrastructural support to Nigerian tertiary institutions, particularly at FUTIA.
Speaking on behalf of the contractor, Otobong Udoma expressed appreciation to the University Management, Consultants, Directorate of Physical Planning, project staff, artisans, and suppliers for their collaboration, noting that the projects were executed in full compliance with approved designs and specifications. He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to quality delivery and future partnerships with the University.
Other speakers, including the Acting Director of Physical Planning, Engr. Dr. Paulinus Akpan, the Project Consultant, Prof. Usen Udoh, and the Village Head of Ikot Ukpo Inua, Etteidung Ettang Okon Benson, congratulated the University and commended the contractor for professionalism and workmanship.
In a vote of thanks, the Registrar, Mrs. Offiongita Nkang, expressed gratitude to the Federal Government, TETFund, and its Executive Secretary, Arc. Sonny Echono, for their support, while also appreciating the contractor and host communities for fostering a peaceful environment for development.
Highlights of the ceremony included the formal handover of keys, signing of the Project Completion Certificate, and inspection of the facilities. Principal Officers of the University, representatives of the Governing Council, staff, and members of the host communities were in attendance.
