Governor Soludo Places Ban on Extra Mural Classes in Anambra Schools
Governor Soludo bans extra mural classes in Anambra schools, prioritizing student well-being and family time.
In a decisive move to prioritize the well-being of students and enhance family interactions, Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has issued a ban on extra mural classes in all schools across the state. Effective immediately, schools are directed to conclude daily academic activities by 2:30 pm.
This directive, as articulated by the Commissioner for Education, Prof Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, aligns with the United Nations (UN) guidelines aimed at ensuring that children have ample time for rest and quality engagement with their families. It reflects Governor Soludo's commitment to fostering a healthy educational environment where students can thrive both academically and socially.
The decision comes in response to concerns raised by the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, who highlighted the adverse effects of prolonged school hours on the well-being of both students and parents. Bishop Ezeokafor emphasized the need for a balanced approach to education that allows children to spend meaningful time with their families outside of school hours.
