IAUE Charges Newly Employed Teaching Staff to Embark on Research for Societal Development

Addressing the staff during an interactive session held at the university auditorium, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Okechuku Onuchuku, stressed the importance of teaching, research, and community service. He urged them to dress professionally, prepare lesson notes, and understand the unique needs of their students in order to tailor effective teaching approaches.

Professor Onuchuku further cautioned against intimidation, harassment, extortion, and gratification in any form, advising the new staff to explore alternative income sources. He encouraged them to take their responsibilities seriously, work as a team, and contribute meaningfully to the university’s growth.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed gratitude to the Rivers State Government for the prompt payment of salaries to the newly employed staff and assured them of access to workshops and training programmes to enhance their skills and expertise.
In his remarks, the Registrar of the University, Dr. Chinonye Abraham Ajie, reminded the new staff of how privileged they were to be selected, noting that over forty thousand applicants had sought the same positions but were not successful. He urged them to justify their appointment through hard work, good conduct, and commitment, warning that any act of misconduct would not be tolerated.

Also speaking, the University Librarian, Dr. Emmanuel Okwu, emphasised the importance of using the library to refresh knowledge and discharge duties effectively. The ICT Director, Professor Nathaniel Ojekudo, lectured on uploading results, while the Director of the Quality Assurance Unit, Professor Levi Doe Kalagbor, explained the unit’s functions and enjoined them to comply with established rules for the smooth running of the institution.
In a vote of thanks, Dr. Ngozi Ojima of the Department of Banking and Finance, Faculty of Administration and Management Sciences, expressed appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor and his management team for the opportunity given to them. She pledged, on behalf of the new staff, to uphold the values of the university and contribute positively to its progress.

The Public Relations Officer of the University, Dr. Ngozi Okiridu, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to excellence, discipline, and continuous growth, noting that the new employees were expected to serve as ambassadors of IAUE both within and outside the academic environment.
