In a bid to elevate educational standards across Imo State, the government has initiated a comprehensive project involving the construction of new primary schools in each of the 305 electoral wards and the establishment of laboratories and libraries in all secondary schools throughout the state.

Governor Sen. Hope Uzodimma unveiled this ambitious initiative during the Diamond Jubilee Celebration of Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, AIFCE, in Owerri. The governor emphasized that the objective of the project is to consolidate ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of education in the state.

Expressing his commitment to fostering academic excellence among the state's youth, Governor Uzodimma announced a groundbreaking policy. Graduates from any of the state's tertiary institutions who achieve a first-class honors degree will be eligible for automatic employment. Alternatively, they can opt for government-sponsored postgraduate programs in institutions of their choice across the country.

Governor Uzodimma emphasized the importance of prioritizing education in leadership, stating, "Every reasonable person in a position of authority in Imo State must prioritize education and invest in it." He highlighted the establishment of the University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, alongside the recovery of K. O. Mbadiwe University Ogboko, as significant steps in this direction.

Furthermore, the governor revealed plans to construct standard laboratories and libraries in all Imo secondary schools, aiming to enhance the teaching and learning environment and ensure quality education for the state's children.

Governor Uzodimma urged communities to safeguard the new educational facilities upon completion. Additionally, he disclosed that steps have been taken to revive the State's Scholarship Board, enabling it to fulfill its role of assisting indigent and talented students in accessing quality education.

During the celebration, Governor Uzodimma congratulated Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education on its 60th anniversary and pledged continued support for the institution's growth and development. The Institution's Provost, Dr. Stella Ngozi Lemechi, commended the governor for his significant interest in the college, acknowledging the recovery of lands and property taken by the previous administration.
