Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) has announced a vacancy for the position of Vice-Chancellor, inviting applications from both internal and external candidates.

The advertisement released today marks the beginning of a search for a visionary leader to steer the institution, established in 1992 by the Federal Government of Nigeria via Act No. 48 of the 2nd November, 1992.

The university, located in the well-known Agricultural Training and Research town of Umudike, about 9 kilometers from Umuahia, the capital of Abia State, began formal activities in May 1993. MOUAU aims to produce high-impact graduates in agriculture, science, and technology while advancing its mission of providing knowledge for food security and sustainable development through practical training and research. The Vice-Chancellor will serve a single term of five years, with remuneration and conditions of service determined by the government.

Eligibility Criteria

- Possess a good university degree

- Be a proven manager of human and material resources

- Have a minimum of ten years of experience at a professorial level

- Demonstrate academic and administrative leadership for a well-established institution

- Show evidence of integrity and community service

- Be a highly distinguished scholar with a minimum of ten years’ experience on that level

- Strengthen ties between staff, students, stakeholders, and attract funding to enhance the university’s mission

- Be not more than 65 years old as of the date of assumption of duty

- Be a person of proven integrity

- Command the respect of the national and international academic communities

- Be able to attract research grants and complementary funds from local and international sources

- Be prepared to provide leadership in the development of high-impact graduates

- Be a person who is not likely to foster personal, ethnic, political, or religious disharmony
