Niger State House of Assembly Committee Commends IBBUL Management, Discusses Future Funding

The Niger State House of Assembly Committee on Education, led by Chairman Honourable Muhammad Sani Idris, conducted an oversight visit to Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBUL) on [Date]. The visit highlighted the University’s significant progress and included discussions on future support and funding.
Honourable Idris, representing Tafa Constituency, praised the University's remarkable growth and its effective management under Vice Chancellor Professor Abu Kasim Adamu. He commended the University's leadership for its role in reducing the need for frequent external interventions.
"All citizens of Niger State should take pride in the institution's progress," Honourable Idris remarked, emphasizing that the University's growth is a source of local pride. He assured the institution of the Committee's commitment to supporting its continued success through adequate budget allocations.
The visit coincided with the State's budget appropriation process, allowing for a thorough review of IBBUL’s financial needs. The Committee’s assessment covered the University’s 2024 budget performance, ongoing projects, and internal revenue generation.
Professor Abu Kasim Adamu expressed gratitude for the Assembly's visit and highlighted IBBUL's rapid expansion. He noted recent achievements, including the introduction of 34 postgraduate programs, the initiation of a Law and Pharmaceutical Sciences program, and the establishment of a Faculty of Environmental Design. Despite these advancements, Professor Adamu acknowledged challenges, particularly in securing sufficient funding and addressing staffing gaps.
Honourable Idris Vatsa and Honourable Umar Nasir Paiko, members representing Lapai and Paiko constituencies respectively, voiced concerns about the lack of capital expenditure funding from the Niger State Ministry for Tertiary Education. They criticized the Ministry’s failure to support the University adequately over the past three years and urged for more proactive engagement to ensure timely funding.
The Registrar of IBBUL, Alhaji Idris Saleh Kusherki, thanked the Committee for their visit, acknowledging their role in supporting the University’s growth. He emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between the University and the State Legislature to address funding and infrastructure challenges.
The oversight visit concluded with tours of the University’s facilities and discussions on future developments, reinforcing the commitment to strengthening the relationship between IBBUL and the State Legislature.
