SLU Inaugurates Research Board and Steering Committee to Drive Innovation and Societal Impact

In its effort to ignite its institutional future, the Sule Lamido University Kafin Hausa (SLUK), has inaugurated the Board of Research, Innovation and Partnership (BRIP) and the University Research Policy Implementation Steering Committee (URSC) on Tuesday 27th January, 2026.

While inaugurating the committees, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Muhammad Ibrahim Yakasai, fcasson, mnae, disclosed that the establishment of the committees marks the definitive operational launch of the University’s Directorate of Research, Innovation and Partnership (DRIP) and the full-scale implementation of the comprehensive University Research Policy in line with the University’s mission of becoming an institution dedicated to "innovative applications of knowledge aimed at improving the lives of people", and its vision of becoming a top-class university that provide a stimulating environment for research aimed at solving societal problems.

The BRIP’s mandate according to the Vice-Chancellor, was to scrutinize and approved research proposals and funding, set strategic direction for research, innovation, and partnerships, oversee the implementation of the University’s entire research policy and advise the Senate and Management on research priorities and resources. The composition of the BRIP has the Vice-Chancellor Professor Muhammad Ibrahim Yakasai, fcasson, mnae, as the Chairman, Overseer of the Directorate of Research, Innovation and Partnership Professor Umar Ali as member, Deputy Directors of BRIP, Deans representing each Faculty, Directors of Schools in the University, representatives of Research Institutes and Centres in the University, Director Academic Planning, Director ICT and Administrative Secretary from DRIP of the University as members.

The URSC on the other hand was mandated to oversee the immediate activation of the DRIP divisions, lead the crucial University-Wide Sensitization on the University’s new research policy, build the initial capacity within the SLUK system and guide the appointed Deputy Directors of the DRIP as the University build towards appointing a substantive Director. Chaired by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Prof. Nasir Faruk, the URSC has Overseer, DRIP, Professor Umar Ali, Director Academic Planning, Dr. Abdullahi Haruna Birniwa, Dean, Faculty of Social and Management Sciences, Dr. Mustapha Hussaini, Director School of Preliminary and Continuing Education (SPACE), Dr. Muhammad Abdulkadir as members with Mukhtar Bako, a Principal Assistant Registrar as Secretary.
