Addressing staff and students at various stops, the Vice-Chancellor reaffirmed that while his administration is committed to improved welfare and a conducive working environment, discipline and accountability will not be compromised. “Staff and students must be happy,” he said, “but happiness must go hand in hand with responsibility.”

He made it clear that absenteeism will not be tolerated, warning that any staff member who fails to report to duty should not expect to receive salary.

“Non-teaching staff who are not coming to work will have their salaries stopped. There will be no room for truancy in this university,” he declared.

The Vice-Chancellor also directed that staff on study leave must present their progress reports in line with university regulations, stressing that failure to comply would result in suspension of salary.

While emphasizing discipline, Prof. Tahir assured staff of his commitment to improving welfare, enhancing infrastructure, and creating a more conducive teaching and learning environment.

He also charged the Investment Unit to strengthen the university’s internally generated revenue through innovative and sustainable ventures, noting that financial stability is key to achieving institutional growth.

Prof. Tahir also expressed deep concern over the recurring cases of mass failure among students, stressing that the trend must be urgently addressed and brought to an end. He noted that while students must be disciplined and committed to their studies, lecturers equally have a responsibility to ensure effective teaching, proper coverage of course outlines, and fair assessment.

The Vice-Chancellor emphasized that his administration will closely monitor academic performance and teaching standards to ensure that mass failure becomes a thing of the past, as the university must uphold excellence and produce graduates who are academically sound and globally competitive.

The Vice-Chancellor’s tour marks the beginning of a firm, reform-oriented leadership focused on discipline, accountability, improved welfare, and sustainable development at Yobe State University.
