The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has reaffirmed its commitment to making education accessible to all Nigerians with the inauguration of a new study centre in Ikorodu, Lagos State.

The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has reaffirmed its commitment to making education accessible to all Nigerians, regardless of location or circumstances.
According to Malam Isah Yuguda, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, "NOUN continues to demonstrate the unwavering commitment in taking education to the very doorstep of every Nigerian."
Yuguda made this statement during the official inauguration of the Ikorodu Model Study Centre in Lagos State on September 3, 2024. He emphasized that "this concept ensures that no matter where you are, whether in the bustling cities or the remote areas of our vast nation, you have access to quality education without constraint of time and space."
He added, "The Ikorodu Model Study Centre will add to the success of the university, as it could become a hub for knowledge sharing not only for registration of students but also a broader community with a vision for workshops, seminars, and vocational training programs."
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Olufemi Peters recalled the idea's conception and the deliberate decision to establish the study center in Ikorodu. He said, "At the time of assumption of office, our students who were about thirty thousand domiciled in Lagos were converging on our Lagos Office on Victoria Island, which used to serve as the Headquarters of the University. The facility was overstretched and overcrowded, housing three distinct study centers all together in one place."
Peters appreciated TETFund and the Needs Assessment Grant for their contributions to the center's funding. "I particularly thank the TETFund Executive Secretary, Arc. Sonny Echono, who has continued to fund the university's infrastructural developments, taking it to greater heights, just as his predecessor in office. Without TETFund, NOUN would not have recorded the exceptional success it has in infrastructural development."
The event was attended by dignitaries, including former NOUN VCs Prof. Vincent Tenebe and Prof. Abdalla Uba Adamu, who praised the management team for expanding study centers and bringing education to individuals' doorsteps. The Oba Adewale Kabir commended NOUN's contribution to the community and pledged to advocate for the university.
