NSCDC Launches Specialized Training Program to Bolster School Safety

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has launched a specialized training program for its staff, reaffirming its renewed dedication to the Safe School Initiative and the education sector.
Addressing the participants at a one-day workshop organised by the National Safe School and Response Centre, the Commandant General of NSCDC, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, highlighted the unwavering dedication of the corps to ensuring the safety of students, teachers, and the entire learning environment nationwide.

Commandant Akenimo Peter, representing Audi, emphasized the necessity of providing officers with the skills and knowledge required to effectively protect educational institutions. He stated, “The safety and security of our educational sector is a critical task that necessitates our officers being well-trained and knowledgeable.”
He further stated, “I want to reaffirm and unequivocally state that training personnel and developing manpower is a priority in realizing the fundamental objectives and directive principles of government policies, as well as the statutory mandate of providing safety and security for Nigerian citizens.”

Babawale Afolabi, the NSCDC’s Public Relations Officer, issuing a statement in Abuja on Wednesday, reiterated the Corps’ duty to protect critical national assets and infrastructure, including educational institutions. He stressed that the protection of school infrastructure, assets, teachers, and students is a key part of the National Safe School Response Coordination Centre’s operational plan. Abodunrin, in his comments, encouraged the trainees to take full advantage of the training opportunity to improve their ability to address emerging security issues within their respective jurisdictions.
The workshop, led by Commandant Hammed Abodunrin of the National Safe School and Response Centre, aims to train over 2,000 NSCDC personnel. These trained officers are expected to spread their newly acquired skills across various regions, thereby enhancing the overall security framework within schools.
