The National Universities Commission (NUC) has urged for collaborative efforts to initiate continuous curriculum reform in Nigerian universities. Chris Maiyaki, the acting executive secretary of NUC, emphasized the necessity of ongoing curriculum reform to ensure universities can adapt to a rapidly changing world. Speaking at the British Council Workshop on Enhancing Curriculum and Pedagogical Approaches in Nigerian Universities, Maiyaki highlighted the challenges of implementing such reforms but stressed their importance in preparing students for the evolving global landscape.
Maiyaki acknowledged the challenges associated with implementing curriculum reforms and emphasized the importance of stakeholder engagement in the process. He highlighted the recent development of the Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS) as a significant step towards curriculum renewal. Maiyaki noted that the CCMAS was developed through collaboration with academic experts, government bodies, professional associations, and the private sector. The new curriculum incorporates innovative courses aimed at enhancing graduates' employability skills, reflecting current global trends.
