NYSC Member Constructs 3-Classroom Block for Plateau Primary School, Deputy Governor Commends Initiative

In a commendable display of community service, Mr. Martins Bassey, an NYSC member deployed to Plateau State, has constructed and donated a substantial education infrastructure – a 3-classroom block – to LEA Primary School in Rangarasang, Rantya, Jos South Local Government Area. The project, valued at N6.5 million, was unveiled and commissioned by the Deputy Governor of Plateau State, Mrs. Josephine Piyo.

In a commendable display of community service, Mr. Martins Bassey, an NYSC member deployed to Plateau State, has constructed and donated a substantial education infrastructure – a 3-classroom block – to LEA Primary School in Rangarasang, Rantya, Jos South Local Government Area. The project, valued at N6.5 million, was unveiled and commissioned by the Deputy Governor of Plateau State, Mrs. Josephine Piyo.

Representing the deputy governor at the event, Mr. Sunday Samuel Amuna, the Acting Executive Secretary of the Plateau State Universal Basic Education Board (PSUBEB), highlighted the significance of the project in line with the vision of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). He praised Martins Bassey for exemplifying the essence of the NYSC program and contributing to the development of education infrastructure in Plateau State.

Amuna emphasized the positive impact of the NYSC scheme, refuting arguments for its scrapping and asserting that the advantages far outweigh any disadvantages. Drawing from his personal experience as an NYSC participant in 1990, he recalled engaging in a similar project and expressed satisfaction that Martins Bassey has continued the tradition.

Martins Bassey, who completed his NYSC service last year, exhibited exceptional dedication by staying back to complete the construction of the classrooms and offices. The PSUBEB Secretary promised to post teachers to the school and provide necessary classroom furniture, underscoring the commitment to ensuring the sustainability of the project.

In his remarks, Martins Bassey shared his personal connection to education, emphasizing its transformative power. Growing up in a rural community in Akwa Ibom State, he faced challenges in accessing quality education. The occasion included the official commissioning of the project, group photographs, and the presentation of gifts to Martins Bassey by community leaders and individuals who played a role in initiating and completing the initiative.
