The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife, Osun State, is set to hold its 47th Convocation, during which 7,986 students will be graduating, with an impressive 158 achieving first-class honors. The convocation is scheduled to commence on Thursday and will culminate on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at the Amphitheatre of Oduduwa Hall on the university campus.

Professor Simeon Bamire, the Vice-Chancellor of OAU, shared this information during a press conference leading up to the convocation ceremony. He revealed that the graduating students represent both undergraduate and postgraduate studies within the university.

Breaking down the statistics, Professor Bamire highlighted that among the graduates, 158 students earned first-class honors, 1,970 secured second-class upper division, 2,906 attained second-class lower division, 942 fell within the third-class division, and 65 graduated in the pass division.

The convocation events will span three days, featuring the awarding of Bachelor’s Degrees to deserving students across various faculties. The Vice-Chancellor expressed appreciation for the students' dedication and the support of their parents and guardians.

The breakdown of the awarding of degrees includes Thursday's ceremony for five faculties, namely Administration, Arts, Education, Law, and Social Sciences, graduating a total of 3,684 students. Friday's event will recognize students from eight faculties, including Agriculture, Basic Medical Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Dentistry, Environmental Design and Management, Pharmacy, Science, and Technology, with a total of 3,026 students graduating.

The grand finale on Saturday will see the awarding of diplomas and degrees to 1,276 postgraduate students across various fields and faculties. Distinguished personalities Chief (Dr.) Anastasios Paul LEVENTIS and Professor Toyin Omoyemi FALOLA will receive Honorary Awards from the university for their exceptional contributions to society and humanity.
