Professor Ifeoluwa Balogun, Deputy Director of WASCAL DRP-WACS at the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), and Miss Oluwabukola Kemisola Babalola, a student from FUTA, recently participated in a Concept Design Workshop for the Global Health Resilience Service (GHRS) in Geneva, Switzerland.

 Professor Ifeoluwa Balogun, Deputy Director of WASCAL DRP-WACS at the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), alongside his student, Miss Oluwabukola Kemisola Babalola, recently participated in a pivotal Concept Design Workshop for the Global Health Resilience Service (GHRS) organized by The Group on Earth Observations (GEO) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) at their headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.

The workshop, held from February 28th to 29th, 2024, focused on developing the Global Heat Resilience Service (GHRS), which aims to provide critical intelligence on health risks posed by extreme heat to every urban area worldwide. By bringing together diverse stakeholders, the GHRS initiative seeks to foster innovative strategies for enhancing heat resilience in cities.

Participants engaged in a 48-hour idea generation and prototyping workshop, envisioning future scenarios and gauging potential user reactions to early concepts. The insights gained will inform the development of offerings tailored to real-world needs, assisting cities and communities in mitigating the impacts of heat on public health and local economies.

Professor Ifeoluwa Balogun's invitation to the workshop was a direct result of the positive outcomes achieved through the Youth Mappers Open Street Mapping Workshop on Heat and Health, which he facilitated at FUTA in October 2023. Accompanied by Miss Oluwabukola Kemisola Babalola, a Youth Mappers Regional Ambassador for Africa and student of the Department of Meteorology and Climate Science, Prof. Balogun contributed his expertise to the workshop.
