Prof. Simon Uchenna Ortuanya Appointed as UNN Vice Chancellor

The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has appointed Prof. Simon Uchenna Ortuanya as its new Vice Chancellor, marking a significant milestone in the institution's history.

Prof. Ortuanya becomes the first-ever Vice Chancellor from Nsukka, a development that is being celebrated as a proud moment for the institution and Nigerian academia.

Prof. Ortuanya is a renowned academic and legal practitioner with a distinguished career spanning several decades. He is currently a Professor of Law and Dean of the Faculty of Law at Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT). He has held various leadership positions, including Secretary to the Enugu State Government, Pioneer Director-General of the South East Governors' Forum, and Commissioner of Education in Enugu State.

Prof. Ortuanya holds an LLB from the University of Nigeria, an LL.M from the University of Lagos, and a Doctorate in Law (SJD) from Loyola University Chicago. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988 and has authored several acclaimed books on law and public health.

Prof. Ortuanya is an authority in Evidence Law, Criminal Law, Human Rights, and Public Health Law. He has led significant reforms in legal education and produced globally competitive law graduates. His appointment as Vice Chancellor is expected to bring new leadership and vision to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
