The Students’ Union Government at Rivers State University has introduced a new operational directive targeting persistent complaints over disputed ₦50 change balances in campus transportation.
The Students’ Union Government at Rivers State University has introduced a new operational directive targeting persistent complaints over disputed ₦50 change balances in campus transportation.
The intervention, issued through the Office of the Director of Transportation & Equipment, follows consultations with park management and the SUG leadership, aimed at stabilizing trust and improving accountability within the shuttle system.
Effective Monday, March 23, 2026, all shuttle vehicles operating within the university environment are required to complete full payment reconciliation—including the issuance of exact change—before departing the park.
According to the directive, the measure is designed to eliminate recurring friction between drivers and passengers, which has reportedly escalated into repeated disputes over minor fare discrepancies.
Park management is said to have also raised concerns over driver conduct, reinforcing the need for stricter compliance and improved service discipline across the transport chain.

The SUG leadership stated that the policy is part of a broader push toward a more structured, student-centric transport system that prioritizes fairness, transparency, and operational efficiency.
Students have been urged to cooperate fully with the new arrangement, while shuttle operators are expected to comply strictly to avoid sanctions or operational restrictions.
The directive was jointly signed by Hon. Irondi Iheoma Liberty, Director of Transportation & Equipment, and Comr. Martins Marvellous Chukwumeka, SUG Executive President, underscoring unified leadership backing for the reform.
The move reflects a practical governance adjustment—addressing a small but persistent leak in service delivery that has had outsized impact on student trust and daily campus mobility.
