SAZU Empowers Youth as Agents of Peace in Strategic Capacity-Building Workshop
The Centre for Peace, Security and Social Studies (SATCEPSS) of Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU), has successfully organised a One-Day Workshop on Youth Engagement in Peacebuilding, bringing together youth leaders, facilitators, academics, and stakeholders committed to promoting peace and social cohesion.
Declaring the workshop open, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Fatimah Tahir, represented by Dr. Wasilu Suleiman, described the programme as timely and strategic, stressing that universities must go beyond teaching and research to actively contribute to peacebuilding and community development.
The VC emphasised that youth empowerment remains central to sustainable peace, noting that when young people are meaningfully engaged, they become agents of positive change rather than instruments of conflict.
In his opening remarks, the Director of SATCEPSS, Dr. Yusuf Musa Yahaya, highlighted the importance of youth inclusion in peace and security processes, referencing the United Nations Youth, Peace and Security Agenda. He explained that the workshop was designed as a practical platform to equip participants with skills and knowledge for peace initiatives within their communities.
The workshop featured interactive sessions aimed at strengthening youth leadership, promoting dialogue, and encouraging community-based peacebuilding initiatives across Bauchi State and beyond.
